This learning module examines the formation of a stoma and the concerns patients can have about their subsequent ability to carry out activities of daily living and quality of life. Reasons for stoma formation, and the types of stoma and what appliances are available, are also highlighted so nurses can educate and support patients. Diet, sexual relationships and self-image are also discussed.
