This learning module explores the concept of health literacy and explains how to detect low levels in parents and children. Challenges to assessing health literacy levels, including the stigma and discrimination it can cause, are outlined and basic healthcare communication strategies for supporting health literacy in practice are suggested. This module is suitable for nurses working in child health.
