This practical learning module is aimed at helping nurses take part in the removal of a chest drain, or tube, in a safe and patient-centred manner. Pain management, clamping to ensure that the patient’s lung will remain re-expanded, the risk of complications such as tension pneumothorax, and pleural effusions are discussed.
