This practical learning module is aimed at helping nurses support patients who require a prostate biopsy to diagnose or exclude prostate cancer. Performing and assisting with a transrectal ultrasound and the biopsy are addressed. Indications for a biopsy, such as elevated levels of prostate-specific antigen and identification of abnormalities on digital rectal examination are also discussed.
