Course description
This learning module explores mental health in men and boys and the impact of intrinsic and extrinsic factors on mental health inequalities. The module aims to enable nurses to identify common concerns, improve their awareness of the actions that healthcare practitioners can take, and to recognise and help reduce health inequalities among men and boys. The role of therapies and medication are also discussed.
Learning aims and intended outcomes
After completing this module and the time out activities, you should be able to:
- Appreciate the prevalence of poor mental health for men and boys in the UK, and the associated risk factors.
- Identify how intersectional and societal issues can increase the risk of poor mental health and reduce opportunities for effective interventions.
- Recognise the difference between severe and enduring mental health issues and more common but less severe mental problems.
- Broadly consider how mental health concerns are managed but also prevented in the NHS.
