This module aims to increase readers' knowledge of caring for patients with a stoma.

Learning aims and intended outcomes
- Understand the anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and urinary system
- Explain the diseases and operations that may result in formation of a stoma
- Identify the three main types of stoma, the common appliances used and their stomal outputs
- Allay common patient concerns and anxieties about the need for a stoma and offer lifestyle advice
