This learning module explores the serious prognostic and quality-of-life implications of heart failure in older people. Confirmatory investigations, diagnosis and consideration of causative processes are discussed, as are health service costs. It also examines the role of nurses in education, lifestyle modification and the provision of symptom-controlling and disease-modifying medication, as well as cardiac devices, surgery and end of life planning as part of the care pathway.
