This learning module reviews the prevalence, pathophysiology, contributing factors and consequences of persistent or recurrent pain in childhood. The negative effects of chronic pain on quality of life, and on a child’s physical, emotional and social functioning, are explored, as well as how a holistic multidisciplinary approach, involving pharmacological, physical and psychological strategies, is often needed.
