This learning module is aimed at enhancing nurses’ understanding of parenteral nutrition and how it differs from oral or enteral nutrition, indications for its use and the potential risks involved. Appropriate vascular access is discussed, as well as the clinical monitoring required to ensure that sepsis, metabolic and electrolyte imbalances and other complications are detected quickly.
