Course description
This learning module will increase your understanding of how factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic and social media affect young people's mental health, particularly in relation to anxiety. It will help you identify strategies to use when discussing mental health with young people or when referring them to support services.
Learning aims and intended outcomes
After completing this module and time out activities you should be able to:
- Explain the difference between normal fluctuations in mental health or emotions and a mental illness or disorder.
- Recognise why the COVID-19 pandemic and increased social media use have led to concerns about the mental health of young people.
- Understand how community nurses can promote young people's mental health and well-being.
- Identify strategies that nurses can use when discussing mental health with young people and when referring them to appropriate support services.
