This learning module summarises the legislative principles concerning patient confidentiality and encourages readers to explore the extent to which patient confidentiality is respected where they work. Nurses duty of care, which includes maintaining privacy (protecting patients from undue intrusion) and confidentiality (through the discreet management of patient information), is also discussed.
